PH Section 03 - Basic Hydraulic Principles & Laws

The strength of a person’s knowledge of hydraulics relates directly to their knowledge of fundamental, or basic, hydraulics.

Think of fundamentals as a building’s foundation. Almost everything you learn about how hydraulic components work, how heat is generated, how pressures change when oil is flowing through a hydraulic system, and much more will be easier to understand if you have a good grasp of fundamental hydraulics.

There are a number of key steps you must take in order to build your knowledge of hydraulics to a level that you can:

  • Work safely with hydraulics
  • Read hydraulic schematics
  • Maintain hydraulic systems
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic systems
  • Design hydraulic systems
